| After Lenin’s death in 1924, his successors Stalin
and Trotsky battled for his position. Lenin stated that he wanted Trotsky
to succeed him, but Trotsky was not as popular with the party as Stalin.
Since the party is everything, Stalin was elected, and Trotsky was exiled,
and was eventually murdered in Mexico by an ax-wielding Soviet sympathizer. |
