| The Russians yet again came in and wailed on the Turks, making
Romania and Serbia independent. Then a congress was called in Berlin to
discuss the Eastern Question, or what to do with Turkey. Many countries
had an interest in the area because of the Suez Canal, and in an effort
to keep the balance of power, it was decided that Turkey should also be
independent. |
