The Monroe Doctrine |
|
|||||
| James Monroe issued this doctrine stating that any attempt
of a European power to return any part of the United States to colonial
status would be viewed as an act of aggression. This was in response to
the War of 1812 when the British tried to take the United States back. At
this point most of the colonies in America had become independent, and the
European powers looked to Africa and Asia to occupy. |
