| With Eli Whitney’s invention of the cotton gin, the
production of cotton skyrocketed. Designed to remove the seeds from cotton,
it enabled cotton to be more quickly produced and exported. Because of this
invention the cotton trade of the southern United States flourished and
the slave trade expanded. |
