Alex Fortney.com Portfolio
My professional website serves as my online portfolio containing my design work leading up to my graduation in May of 2010 with a Masters of Architecture. The site will also feature my thesis project when it is completed next year, as well as a weblog documenting the design and development process.
Alex Fortney Design
Alex Fortney Design is an independent web design company based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin owned and operated by me. I work with local businesses, individuals and organizations to develop their online presence.
CSS Zen Garden
There is clearly a need for CSS to be taken seriously by graphic artists. The Zen Garden aims to excite, inspire, and encourage participation. To begin, view some of the existing designs in the list. Clicking on any one will load the style sheet into this very page. The code remains the same, the only thing that has changed is the external .css file.
This is my attempt at performing the classic exercise. I have not submitted it to the gallery mostly because I consider it unfinished, but it was a good exercise non-the-less.
The Gardens of Europe
The Gardens of Europe was a book I published documenting the photos I took of the parks, gardens, villas and châteaux I visited during my study abroad. The books were given to family and friends.
I Love the Eisner
The Eisner Museum of Advertising and Design of Milwaukee hosted a benefit called "I Love the Eisner" and hosted a design competition featuring 12"×12" wood boards on which we would construct a graphic design which would be judged and sold as a benefit. I partnered with Kathryn to develop the "LOVE" boards. We won an honorable mention and sold the set for $120.
Rome/Paris Companion Site
This site serves as a replacement for my main site while I was in Europe in the fall of 2006. I have created a special weblog and gallery to hold my entries, photos and video. I updated the site frequently with blog entries with a Google Maps interface to follow me around Europe. I also posted photos and the occasional video.
The site, obviously, is not being updated anymore but it serves as a legacy.
Naturalfilms Film Company
When my friend Justin Daering founded Naturalfilms Film Company and wanted to put his films online, some of which I was in or helped produce, I arranged hosting for him and designed the site. The site was challenging because it was going to be using a great deal of bandwidth because it allowed users to download the films. For each of the 13 films there were 3 different formats for people to download.
The site also features a blog and information on casting and crew recruiting.
