The Architect

Sir Nicolas Grimshaw is a recognized modern architect, responsible for the award-winning design of countless buildings around the world. Other well known projects of his include the international railway terminal at London's Waterloo Station and the Eden Project in Cornwall.

The Building

The building was constructed to house all of the printing facilities as well as the worldwide headquarters of the Western Morning News company. The company relocated from an urban environment to the outskirts.

The building is curved around the hill that it is constructed on. This creates a place for the main entrance to be built in a place where visitors can see all three floors of the printing facility as they enter. The building takes on the shape of a boat, which is a nod to the shipping industry of the area.
