Solvay Coke and Gas Spaces

Solvay Coke and Gas Site

Coke Furnaces

Milwaukee, Wisconsin2009-2010

The remaining buildings on the Solvay Coke and Gas Company site include an office building, a laboratory and a machine shop. Formerly, there was a remarkable factory containing furnaces that converted coal into coke and gas, but they were demolished in the early 2000s. The Solvay Company went out of business suddenly in 1983, so a lot of items were left behind including laboratory equipment, office supplies, furniture, tools and other industrial curiosities. With development spreading south along the harbor, it is unlikely that these buildings will stand much longer.
